Description
The purpose of this request for quotation is to procure a specialist survey of the Shetland Pondweed Potamogeton rutilus in Kindrum Lough, Co. Donegal, and to conduct preliminary searches for the species in other suitable coastal lakes in the county. Potamogeton rutilus was discovered in Kindrum Lough in mid-August 2025 (N.F. Stewart, pers. comm.). This was the first record for the species in Ireland. Potamogeton rutilus is a submerged macrophyte of unpolluted, mesotrophic (i.e. moderate-alkalinity) lakes that occurs in Scotland and across northern Europe (Norway, Sweden, Finland, Germany, Poland etc.) (Preston, 2026; Schou et al., 2023).
