The projects must contribute scientifically grounded empirical knowledge on how activities relating to offshore wind affect the marine environment, including helping to clarify whether the impact(s) of the activity can be regarded as significant, either in themselves or in combination with other pressure factors;whether the impacts of the activity are unequivocally negative or whether it may also have positive effects; whether the impact of the activity is primarily local or whether it has a broader geographical impact; and whether any mitigation measures for the activity’s impact on the marine environment are effective.In addition to gathering knowledge, the projects may also test mitigation measures for the activity’s impact on the marine environment. ‘Activities’ refers to activities relating to the construction, operation and decommissioning of offshore wind farms.
